Headteacher's Welcome

Hello, my name is Mrs Mayes, and I’m the Acting Headteacher for Grace Cook Primary School and Nursery, which opened in September 2022. I’ve been involved in education for nearly 30 years, working in nurseries, as an Adviser for the Local Authority, and in a variety of Primary Schools across Suffolk as part of the senior leadership team.

My role

As the Acting Headteacher of Grace Cook Primary School and Nursery, my commitment is to ensure that every child feels excited and inspired to come to school each day. I aim to spark curiosity, nurture a love of learning, and help every pupil grow into the very best version of themselves.

At Grace Cook, I will provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where both children and staff are encouraged to take risks, embrace challenges, and realise their full potential.

I also believe strongly in the power of partnership. By working closely with parents, carers, and the wider community, we can create a vibrant and thriving school together. I look forward to learning from and alongside our families as we continue to grow and develop.

What I enjoy

In my free time, I enjoy reading and exploring the outdoors with my dog, George. I love visiting National Trust properties across the country with my family, discovering new places and soaking up their history and beauty. I'm also a keen gardener and find real joy in spending time nurturing my garden through the seasons.

What I would like to get better at

I have a real passion for cakes—especially eating them—and I'm on a mission to become a better baker myself!

People describe me as

Someone who is determined, organised, and who truly listens—valuing everyone's ideas and opinions. I'm known for being kind, driven, and bringing a sense of humour to everything I do. I look forward to meeting you in the coming months, should you choose Grace Cook for your children.
